In the Pays d'Oc, the red variety shows its aromatic richness in intense rosés and primeurs as well as in deep dark, complex reds. The rosés predominantly express fresh red berries, while the red wines develop aromas of violets, black pepper, dark fruits, liquorice and fine spices.
Originally from Provence, the large sweet berries survive the heat and drought in Languedoc - the largest growing region of this grape variety - well. Vinified as Pays d'Oc IGP, Cinsault scores with aromas of white blossoms, peaches, raspberries as well as almonds as an elegant, light, pale rosé. The red wines have a lot of finesse.
This red variety produces sophisticated red wines worldwide. In the sunny Pays d'Oc it gains intense aromas of cassis, cherry, elderberry, paprika and develops ripe tannins. Often aged in barriques, it is joined by spices, cedar, toasted notes, and later also undergrowth and game.
Pays d'Oc IGP is the world's most important producer of this famous variety, which originally comes from the Bordelais. Intense ripe red fruits such as cherry, strawberry and cassis, combined with peppery, spicy notes characterise the young, drinkable reds and rosés in Pays d'Oc, as well as the structured, well-aged great red wines.
Introduced from Spain in the Middle Ages, this variety loves sun and dryness and shows itself generously, whether in vins doux naturels or full reds. Often fruity in rosés fragrant, Grenache Noir also produces juicy Mediterranean reds with aromas of blackberries, figs or even cocoa.
The white variety thrives worldwide and particularly well on cool terroirs, including in the Pays d'Oc. Its aromas of cassis, grapefruit, lime and boxwood are particularly characteristic. On the palate, it is fresh and often with pronounced mineral notes.
Long confined to the steep slopes of Condrieu, south of Lyon, this white grape variety has found another home in the Pays d'Oc. Its intense aromas of white flowers, pears, peaches, apricots and, later, honey, are enthusiastically received. In the mouth, it is very harmonious.
The leading white grape variety in the Pays d'Oc varies its aromatic expression between white flowers and citrus notes in cool sites and rather ripe, exotic fruits in warmer sites. In barrique, the grape variety develops aromas of butter, hazelnut, later brioche and honey.
