Tasting director Marcus Hofschuster has awarded this season's "Collection of the Year" to 17 producers from as many growing regions in Germany, Austria, Italy, France and Greece. In addition, he has honoured nine hitherto little-known businesses from Germany, Italy and France as "Discoveries of the Year" due to their outstanding wine qualities.
"The awards go to important top producers as well as the most exciting new discoveries of those growing regions from which we were able to taste a sufficiently representative selection of wines in the past tasting season," Marcus Hofschuster explains the selection.
"In the 2020/2021 season, he evaluated a total of around 10,000 wines, of which just under 1,900 scored more than 90 points. From this extensive body of reviews, Hofschuster has used strict criteria to select the wineries for the year's collections and discoveries. "It is often nuances that tip the scales in favour of the award," is how the tasting director describes the elaborate and demanding evaluation process.
Since 2000, Marcus Hofschuster has been tasting Europe's top wines for the wine reviews of wein.plus: always blind and always under the same conditions in the tasting room in Erlangen. He works incorruptibly, precisely and thoroughly.
